The New Age reports that, as South Africa prepares to host UN climate talks, to be held in Durban from 28 November to 9 December 2011, African farmers say they are struggling to access the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). The CDM is billed as a key programme meant to help them take part in the fight against climate change by letting industrialised countries and their companies fund green projects in the developing world in exchange for credits toward their emission-cutting targets under the Kyoto Protocol. 
According to Francois Strydom, MD of Senwes, South Africa's second-largest diversified agricultural group, South African agribusiness is looking for international partners in a bid to access global markets, Business Day reports. 
According to foodingredientsfirst.com, California-based agricultural technology company Arcadia Biosciences Inc has signed an agreement with the South African Sugarcane Research Institute (SASRI) to develop nitrogen use-efficient (NUE) sugarcane. 
South African fishermen are in danger of fishing themselves out of existence as at least 50% of South Africa's marine resources have been fully exploited, according to a report published in Business Report.
