It's getting hot in here...

Spring is springing and fashion season is hotting up with the Spring/Summer collections on show in the coming months. Edgars is getting in on the gig as the official partner of of SA Fashion Week, which kicks off at the end of September. Mpumalanga Fashion Week follows in November.

The motoring industry celebrated VWSA's 60th birthday last week, along with a bump in new car sales. Motorists, however, won't be pleased as the petrol price climbs another 9c per litre this Wednesday.

SA's dairy industry looks to be deep in the proverbial cowpat, as the number of milk producers rapidly dwindle.

While I don't think we've seen the last of winter's rains, hope springs eternal.

Happy spring everyone!

Consumption-based society strains economy
[John Loos] Could the unequal and 'conspicuous' consumption practices of our household sector be potentially even more harmful than the inequality of income on its own, as consumption is the most visible to the poor and has the potential to create the most discontent. It is this consumption that hampers longer term economic growth through limiting much-needed savings to fund fixed investment and it is certain forms of this consumption that place a strain on the environment. Laurie Levine makes my soul sing
[Sindy Peters] Laurie Levine's Six Winters can be compared to an undulating landscape that takes you on an exciting aural journey complete with cheerful climbs and soul-stirring descents, and hardly any plains for you to catch your breath. You won't find any country / folk in my music collection; I've never made a connection with the genre, until now that is. Read more >>

Last In The Fall?
[Ruth Cooper] "Music stole my heart, you made me tear my whole world apart, This my love is a break-up letter ... Music, this is goodbye," sings Jeremy on track 9; Music Stole My Heart. Seems like that heady music love affair is over for The Dirty Skirts. Hinted as being their last album, "Lost In The Fall" is an ellipsis on the possible end of the band's career. The 12 tracks reflect this; an apocalyptic sentiment prevails throughout; forecasting an ultimate and final destiny for the band and on a much larger, vaguer scale, the world. Read more >>
