Just typical… the sun is shining this morning in Margate as we’re all leaving the little seaside town after a wonderful weekend of fun and games at the annual gathering of the Loeries flock. And what a weekend it was. We had sun last year and rain this year, but it didn’t stop this industry from partying hard, networking up a storm and generally having a whole lot of fun. The organisation this year was mostly super-slick, compared to the friendly chaos of last year. Huge improvements were registration and the organisation of the awards ceremony - which was professional, slick and short! Okay, so it lost a bit of the spontaneous screamingly funny antics of last year (remember the fight with the pool toys and Corne and Twakkie…), but no one will complain about the toilets this year (very pretty) or the trek to the venue (unless you couldn’t find a taxi and had to walk up the 120 steps and then another hill in the rain). Alright, so the minibus taxi fleet could have been better identified and organised and some contingency should have been made to heat the tent on Sunday night as we froze our tushes off in our minimalistic glam outfits, but it was a blast. Much of the credit must go the sponsors and various agencies who kept up the excitement with various brand activations and promotions – and of course the people of Margate who are continually patient, tolerant and unfailingly helpful. Well done guys – I can’t wait for next year! On another note, Bizcommunity today launches its exciting job alert service by SMS - subscribe below!

[Chris Moerdyk] News that the European Union is to consider prohibiting airline passengers from taking drinks on board is yet another security irritation that is going to make marketing a lot more difficult for airlines in the future.
