Bizcommunity.com has introduced a registration system into our backend for readers to register with the site if they want to post comments - once-off. We've had to introduce this system as part of normal checks and balances for our message boards/forums due to the 0.5% who don't respect the laws of the land or human dignity and insist on posting personal, denigrating and defamatory comments directed at individuals in this industry - we've had death threats from American rightwing extremists; we've had graphic details of people's sex lives posted; and private emails of a personal nature; as well as really nasty personal comments about individuals that have no reference to the subject matter being discussed. We're a business-to-business site which publishes information to grow business in our industry, acting as a conduit to connect stakeholders, not as a site for settling old scores with previous employers or colleagues. We also love the comments on the site - this is a seriously witty industry - so we are not censoring comments or approving them before posting them, you can still be anonymous (choose your own unique nom-de-plume that will only be yours on Bizcommunity.com), and we will not be harvesting your email address for anything else. But the hits on the site have become too vast to manage by reading every single message board post, so by screening for keywords (swear words, etc) and asking our loyal subscribers and readers to register, we hope we can introduce some level of responsibility on the part of the blogger. Time will tell... If you have any comment or constructive contribution to make to this debate, please email us.

Enjoy! Louise Marsland, editor, editor@bizcommunity.com

Time to change the marketing rules
[Chris Moerdyk] The way in which marketing is being perceived in South Africa right now is not too far off that of a second-rate soap opera. The latest spat between MTN and Vodacom that torpedoed the publication of the Markinor Sunday Times Top Brands Survey last weekend is just another setback of attempts by marketers to persuade other sectors of business to take them seriously.
