Turning disaster into a marketing advantage [Chris Moerdyk] Recent South African Airways advertising in which it complains bitterly of British double standard is both amusing and an object lesson in leveraging a disaster in the interests of gaining brand share.
Local consumer confidence remains high above global average Consumer confidence levels, perceptions of personal finances and local job prospects are all increasing worldwide, according to recent results of an online survey conducted by ACNielsen.
Consumer research moves to tackle global concerns [Steve Burgess] Globally marketing has traditionally being directed at a 10% slice of the world's consumers, most of these in developed markets. But in a transforming and globalising world economy what about the other parts of the consumer pie? And what is being done to diversify research to fully understand these consumers who have special characteristics that demand informed marketing?
Consumer insights and the power of contrast [Sid Peimer] The allure of insights to the marketing industry is that they are based on human 'truths' - people in the same situation will behave in the same way.
Acceptance into local parlance is advertising's golden arrow The unconscious adoption of words from advertising messages into local parlance by the person-on-the-street is a powerful indicator of advertising success. When a campaign message is acknowledged by your target audience to the extent that it becomes part of everyday communication, then you know you have created great responsive advertising that is truly in touch with what is going on in the community.
The secret's out - The insights behind Consumer Insights - stratplanning.com Sid Peimer will be revealing the powerful truth behind consumer insights to a select audience on the 21st Feb in Cape Town and the 28th Feb in Johannesburg.
Coca-Cola MegaMillions ends on high note - Conceptualise Coca-Cola MegaMillions, arguably the most successful consumer promotion in South Africa, wrapped up its 4th season last week.

'Loeries' in the pink Look out for the 'Pink Loeries' - the annual gathering of the Knysna gay Mardi Gras, 25-28 May 2006 - this year in its fifth year, with the catchy official slogan: 'Hey! Who's your moffie!' or 'Hey! Wie's jou moffie!' ...Genuine. What is unique is that what with gay marriages expected to be legalized by year-end, many gay couples will be getting engaged, according to the organizers, who promise "...hundreds of same sex engagements all over town - even in Plettenberg Bay(!) This can be seen as an expression from the gay community of their feelings towards our government's decision to make same sex marriages legal".
