November is the month the magazine publishing industry comes together to celebrate and reward the industry at the annual Pica awards. So it is fitting that in this month when magazine publishing excellence is lauded, two new magazines that have got the industry talking, should be launched. The first was Maverick, a new business magazine and B®AND, a new B2B title for our industry. Both quality offerings have differentiated on editorial quality and design, including bold mastheads and quality pix. Both are attempting to raise the bar on reporting in their respective target industries. Both will probably turn the target markets they have entered into upside down, setting new benchmarks in publishing excellence. It's particularly refreshing to see business being given such a creative treatment, as well as excellence in trade publishing from Brand, where often anything goes - the cheaper the better. Looking forward to seeing whether both titles get the advertising support and how they grow readership. And... apologies if you couldn't access Bizcommunity.com on Friday - the massive Cape Town power failure took us down too!

Have a good one! Louise Marsland, Editor, editor@biz-community.com
