    Nedbank, Wesbank, MNET and South African Breweries (SAB) will attempt to break the Guinness World Record by shaving or colour-spraying as many heads as possible within a four hour period. The campaign, placed by Initiative Media, and implemented by Primedia Unlimited's washroom advertising division, The Letter Corporation, relied on humorous adverts that play on the fact that toilets are covered in invisible microorganisms.

    There's a rugby showdown taking place off field this week when a Tri-Nations of advertising agencies goes head-to-head to win the new Super 14 rugby competition international account that's up for grabs.

This independent tracking survey, managed by Bateleur Research Solutions, is conducted monthly amongst 1 200 respondents and measures their perceptions of all automotive TV, print and billboard ads flighted.     East meets West on a pony
    Japanese designer Comme des Garçons has commissioned SA agency Daddy buy me a pony to design a T-Shirt range to be distributed by www.doverstreetmarket.com in collaboration with Pocko (UK). Daddy buy me a pony designed the Ronnie Loves Range to bring an African element to the Comme des Garçons range of clothes. The Japanese designer is famous for her asymmetrical, seemingly shapeless designs which combine Eastern and Western ideas of clothing.

    Fourteen top quality international feature films entered into the Annual Gala Awards competition will be subject to a red-carpet screening at the Artscape Main Theatre during the Cape Town World Cinema Festival (CTWCF) from 11 to 20 November 2005.

    Mama Jack goes to California
    Leon Schuster's latest film, Mama Jack, which will be released in South Africa on 24 November 2005, will have its world premiere when it is screened to international distributors at the American Film Market (AFM) which takes place between 2 and 9 November in Santa Monica, California.

    CineMARK and U2 make Nkosi a haven
    The pro bono campaign for Nkosi's Haven, SA's first care centre for mothers and children with HIV/Aids, was screened free of charge in 57 cinemas across the country for six weeks. This thanks to CineMARK's donation of free screen space and internationally renowned rock band U2, who waived usage and royalty rights for the use of their song "Kite" in the campaign by ad agency DDB South.

    Bilingual seventeen for holidays
    seventeen magazine is publishing 15 000 Afrikaans copies of their December SCHOOL'S OUT issue, which will be on sale from 2 November. This comes after a highly successful first Afrikaans test in July with the Matric Dance issue and means that a total of 65 000 copies of seventeen will be printed in December. Both versions come with a free 178pg 2006 seventeen diary.

    Hip hip hop for Hype Magazine
    The August/September issue of 16-month old hip hop magazine HYPE has seen record sales of 19 100 copies, 90% of its print order. The bi-monthly title comes with a hip hop compilation CD and has signed a deal with Comutanet that sees a further 6 500 distributed on Gauteng taxis. Associate Publisher Natalie Dixon says: "Our advertising in Gauteng taxis, on Metro FM and on DSTV has paid off."

    SA Home Owner focuses on north coast
    The November/December issue of South African Home Owner is due to hit the shelves with a resounding 408 pages. The year-end issue focuses on homes on the KwaZulu Natal North Coast but includes homes across SA. The calendar pull-out features some of SA's best home décor and architecture.

    Runner's World is on the run
    The Runner's World November 2005 issue has increased to 100 pages, with the aim of building the sport within South Africa.     Burst pipe delays newspapers
    A burst water pipe caused Beeld, Nova and Daily Sun newspapers to hit the streets late, affecting the surrounding community yesterday in City Deep, Johannesburg. Subscribers, vendors and independent merchants in the Northwest, and parts of KwaZulu-Natal such as New Castle, Vryheid and Ladysmith were inconvenienced this morning by not receiving their newspapers.
