It's a sad day when an industry organisation such as the Marketing Federation of Southern Africa (MFSA) has to dissolve, but owing R5 million to boot is just unbelievable - particularly given the wealth of talent at board level and in this industry to draw on. Sadly, the MFSA's dissolution comes as no surprise given the controversy that has dogged the transformation of this industry, the allegations of mismanagement and desperate attempts to resolve management and fiscal issues by bringing in caretaker CEOs. But to tell the industry, only a couple of months ago that everything was hunky dory and being sorted is irresponsible to the extreme. Serious questions need to be asked by the stakeholders in this industry as to who approved that spin campaign. And if the best explanation the MFSA can give in its statement issued Sunday night, is that it had to "save the Loerie Awards" then one has to ask if the organisation and its board have not lost the plot completely? One hopes, as is rumoured, that key industry leaders will intervene to assist the industry in overcoming this embarrassing period in its history to create something brighter out of the ashes of the MFSA.

Have a good week! Louise Marsland, Editor, editor@biz-community.com

[Louise Marsland] The Marketing Federation of Southern Africa (MFSA) is bankrupt and owes more than R5 million to creditors. MFSA bankrupt: dissolves
BREAKING NEWS: The Marketing Federation of South Africa will announce on Monday, 3 October 2005 that it is shutting up shop and dissolving the organisation. What is it with some agencies that require people that are all rounders?
It is a bit like going to your general practitioner (Doc) to get a spine fusion done or your eyes fixed, that is what the specialists are there for. The design agency should work the same way, because when you employ general people you get general work but if you employ a specialist you get exceptional work. What is your view?

    Poor service
There is never enough said on poor service in SA. Poor service extends right across the board. We need to keep the pressure up as consumers. What is your view?

Sponsorship in need of a paradigm shift
As a sponsorship practitioner it is both sad and unfortunate to see that major corporates are still biased and committed to investing most of their sponsorship budgets into sports. What is your view?

    Potential design candidates appalling
I have been tasked to find a replacement for my position of Medium level Graphic Designer, and can't believe the poor quality of candidates out there. What is your view?
