Laduma scores another goal Newspaper Soccer Laduma has achieved the 300 000 circulation figure with its 431st edition.
Simonsays gets The South African account Simonsays communications has been appointed to handle the marketing and PR for The South African (TSA), an A4 monthly magazine presenting a broad spectrum of life in South Africa. Media24 female titles increase circulation Media24 Women's Magazines is thrilled to announce that all three of its monthly titles (Sarie, Fairlady and True Love) have shown an increase in circulation, confirmed by the ABC figures for January to June 2005. Men's Health continues steady ABC increase
Once again Men's Health has posted an increase in circulation - the official Jan-June 2005 ABC period saw the magazine showing a 3.1% period-on-period increase with a figure of 91 849. It's the first time the 90 000 barrier has been broken by Men's Health and makes them the only men's magazine within the lifestyle and lad category to have never shown a decrease in an ABC period.
Saltwater GIRL surges ahead Saltwater GIRL Magazine has retained its market leading status in the highly competitive youth category, posting an ABC for the Jan-July 2005 period of 40329. The locally grown lifestyle magazine for young women surged to fresh heights, showing circulation growth of 15.2% and in the process widening the gap between itself and its nearest competitor to nearly 20%.
Weg ABC figure leaps by 102% The official sales figure of Weg, South Africa's first and only Afrikaans outdoor and travel magazine, continued its stampede during the past six months with a growth of 102% in comparison with the same period last year. The Weg ABC figure for January to June this year is 74 396, as compared with 36 827 for the period from April to June last year.
Saving face for surfers
Surfers require three basic items to enjoy a day at the beach: A surfboard, boardshorts (Durban) or wetsuit (Cape Town) and a towel. Appealing to core readers' most essential needs then, Zigzag Surfing magazine teamed up with towel manufacturer Glodina to produce a range of surf towels.

Home décor sales grow The latest ABC figures reveal that Tuis and Home's combined circulation is now at 84 715, making it the second biggest seller in the décor category. The magazines have been on shelf for only a year. Elsa Carpenter-Frank, business manager for the magazines, says readers are looking for inspiration, not aspiration, and practical, affordable solutions to their decorating and gardening challenges.
Popular Mechanics gets more popular Popular Mechanics has delivered increased circulation every year since its launch three years ago - 32% growth over the period, according to the magazine's publisher, Neil Piper. The Jan - June 2005 ABC period alone reflects a 16% increase on the same period last year and an ABC of 31 428.
Taking finesse up a notch The Audit Bureau of Circulations ratings for January to June 2005 for finesse magazine, published by Carpe Diem Media, is 87 593. Editor Venessa Schoeman says the results of the latest ABC, plus market research, has led to a decision to print an additional 30 000 copies for a minimum of three issues starting with the September issue.
Seventeen continues its growth trend Seventeen magazine, which launched in November 2003, has shown a January to July 2005 ABC figure of 33 254. This increase is 8% higher than the previous six months and 18% higher than this time last year. Publisher Sam Sneddon says the magazine's circulation growth in the first six months of the year was accompanied by robust growth in advertising sales.

Carlisle turned the tables on afternoon presenter Maurice Carpede by 'busting' him - the DJ is well known for his daily busts on station listeners.
Radio 702 building homes for the homeless Five families will soon be the proud recipients of new Soweto houses, built for them by Talk Radio 702 as part of the radio station's 25th birthday celebrations. 702's listeners, sponsors and celebrities will be building the houses - from laying the bricks to plastering the walls and erecting the roof structure - from Monday 22 August.
A bounty on their heads East Coast Radio has offered a reward of R10 000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the two attackers who gouged out the eyes of their victim in Kwa Mashu last week. The mugging, which left 19-year-old Bongani Ngonyama without his sight, had East Coast Radio listeners reeling in disbelief. The newly launched Bokomo Big Breakfast show, hosted by Alan Khan & Sorisha Naidoo, had the young victim in the studio and listeners were urged to call in and offer Bongani help with regards to future employment and payment of hospital bills. Independent Newspapers and East Coast Radio have pooled resources and raised over R50 000 so far.
Kaya's Kwena wins ABSA cup Kaya FM's sports presenter and editor Kwena Moabelo walked away with the ABSA Cup 2005 Radio Journalist of the Tournament, held at Securicor Loftus after the Supersport vs Santos game on 10 August 2005. Kwena reported on every draw, did pre-round interviews and a one-hour broadcast at the Rand Show on the ABSA Cup including giveaways and had four special guests on his normal nightly show.
