100 News workers killed this year
The International Federation of Journalists says 100 news media workers have been killed around the world this year - the highest number in six years. In their annual report the federation says that Columbia tops the list for the number of journalists targeted for assassination, while the US, since the September 11 attacks, is said to be most deadly country.
Raymond Louw, of the Media Institute of Southern Africa, says journalists are dying due to an increase of corruption in commerce, industry and government, as well as crime in the broader society.
