Economic empowerment for women in Gambia
The organisation believes that economic development can never be achieved if criticality of a woman's role in reducing household poverty is not addressed. Empowering women with financial stability and decision making ability can end generational cycles of poverty and disease and provides a foundation for sustainable development.
The organisation's latest project, "Skills Training Centre for Women", is presently in its final phase of construction. It aims to provide free skills training to women and girls for their economic empowerment. The project has a long term objective of liberating women and girls from cultural subjugation, ignorance, dependency syndrome and vicious cycle of poverty.
The organisation needs financial support to secure training equipments such as sewing and hairdressing machines, computers, office materials such as tables and chairs, printers and solar panels for electricity. These materials will help to enhance their service delivery capacity to the beneficiaries.
This project is very unique among the various interventions the organisation has embarked upon over the years in the sense that once women are empowered; it has a positive effect on their immediate environment. As the saying goes: "If you educate a man, you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a nation."
