DTT deployment in Ivory Coast will begin in February
During a ceremony, the Minister of Communication and Media, Sidiki Tiémoko Touré, declared, “The definitive launch of digital terrestrial television is expected for February 8, 2019.”
The airing of DTT signals in the Abidjan area follows the commissioning of the Abobo transmitter in Abidjan.
Other areas of the country will be gradually linked with the construction and rehabilitation of other transmitters.
The process of deploying digital terrestrial TV should be finalised “by June 2020”, according to the minister, with four new television channels in addition to the national public channel.
On the other hand, President Alassane Ouattara, stated, “The year 2019 will be important for the audio-visual sector with the operationalisation of DTT and the arrival of four new channels of free access.”
Every year, the government offers about 1.3 million USD (800 million CFA francs) to boost the performance of press companies, increase their competitiveness and enable citizens to enjoy press products.
