To transform its portfolio of resorts to 4 and 5 trident luxury, Club Med has revealed the new look and feel of its island resort located in South West Thailand on the small island of Phuket in Kata Bay.
Club Med Phuket takes on a new look

The newly renovated Club Med Phuket, inspired by Thai lanterns and local colours, was designed by Marc Hertrich and Nicolas Adnet. The transformation includes a re-designed reception area, bar, a main restaurant with five satellite rooms, a specialty restaurant overlooking the ocean, a pool with views of Karon Bay and a new Club Med Spa by Payot.

"Club Med Phuket is ideal for families; the resort offers a haven of peace and discovery with its new design inspired by the country's ancestral culture. It's like a story that builds to a crescendo," explains Marc Hertrich.

Thai lanterns inspired the theme for the new specialty restaurant creating a cosy and warm atmosphere overlooking Karon Bay. Located on the Eastern edge of the resort, the swimming pool area provides comfortable sun beds and a section reserved only for adults. The contemporary Club Med Spa by Payot, providing up to eight types of treatments including traditional Thai massages, lies nestled in the Zen garden, just a short walk from reception.

The design of the main bar was inspired by the Chofah, an elegant bird that is often used to decorate roof edges and is said to keep away evil spirits. The design is very modern, making it one of the distinctive features at the resort. The wooden coffee tables that line the bar area were made by local craftsmen and when the sun sets, the special lighting effects in the bar area create a whole new atmosphere. The new restaurant explores the senses through five inspiring pavilions offering atmospheres based on the five senses - flavours, fragrances, music, colours and materials.

    Raising environmental awareness in children

Included in the resort's upgrade, is a new program that has been introduced to Mini Club Med. The program, 'Clean Art Planet' raises children's awareness of the environment by giving a new meaning to items that are discarded in the sea and washed ashore on the beach. Once these items have been cleaned and sorted, they are passed on to the creative workshops within Mini Club Med; children will then create their own work of art.

"Club Med Phuket is about bringing families together, it's our only resort in Asia that provides full child care facilities. The design incorporates features that create a comfortable and serene experience for the whole family to enjoy. Thailand is one of our biggest markets in South Africa and it's important for us to continually try and meet the needs of our discerning guests to ensure that they return year on year," concludes Stuart de Bourgogne, managing director at Club Med South Africa.
