    Although little more than providing a souped-up room service in their premier hotels, it does provide a new focus: eat what, when and where you like.

    Southern Sun, Sun Coast Casino and Towers executive chef Xanthos Giannakopoulos explains that for the My Lunch delivery they looked at what the guest needs were and customised a packed lunch that might include a barley salad, crudités, hummus, pastry, juice, cheese board, fruits, cereal bars and a sandwich.

    "The idea here is to deliver added-value for our guest which is why we are able to provide this at R85 a pack. This is part of the My chef on Call offering where if there are any specific dietary needs or if a guest is travelling late there is a dedicated cell number that puts the guest in touch with the chef directly so he can ensure that dietary requirements, a lunch pack or special requests are met," he says.

    I was impressed with both the quality and the price of the lunch pack which fortified us during our onward journey. It is smartly packaged and makes much better eating than airplane offerings or something from a roadside stop.
