Suspension of the Cameroonian Football Association

The FIFA Emergency Committee decided on Thursday, 4 July 2013, to provisionally suspend the Cameroonian Football Association (FECAFOOT) with immediate effect, on account of government interference. Articles 13 and 17 of the FIFA Statutes oblige member associations to manage their affairs independently and with no influence from third parties.

A normalisation committee will be set up as provided under article 7 par. 2 of the FIFA Statutes to revise the FECAFOOT statutes and to organise elections for new office bearers by 31 March 2014, at the same time as managing the daily business.

The FIFA administration, in cooperation with Confederation of African Football (CAF), will identify and nominate the members of the normalisation committee.

The normalisation committee will act as an electoral body, whose decisions will be final and binding. Its members will not be eligible for any of the open positions.

The suspension will be lifted once the country authorities allow the new normalisation committee to enter the FECAFOOT headquarters and to carry out its activities unhindered.

To avoid any conflict of interest, the CAF President Issa Hayatou did not take part in the vote.

During the period of suspension, FECAFOOT may not be represented in any regional, continental or international competitions, including at club level, or in friendly matches. In addition, neither FECAFOOT nor any of its members or officials may benefit from any FIFA or CAF development programmes, courses or training during the suspension period.
