    The BlackBerry comes to Uganda

MTN Uganda and Research In Motion (RIM), a global leader in wireless technology have launched the easy to use BlackBerry Curve 8300 smartphone in Uganda.

"The BlackBerry solution brings together smartphones, and software services to allow easy access to email, phone, calendar, web, multimedia and corporate data applications on the go," said the MTN CEO Noel Meier.

"We believe that the introduction of the BlackBerry solution will greatly supplement MTN's cutting edge technology and innovativeness and will help serve MTN's commitment to deliver the best solutions to our customers."

He added that people would no longer need to be worried about being away from the office or their computers because they can now keep in touch with business or their personal communications through the real time connectivity provided by the BlackBerry solution.

"The BlackBerry Curve 8300 smartphone offers powerful communications and productivity capabilities, as well as an advanced multimedia suite that allows users to watch videos, capture and share pictures and listen to music. RIM is delighted to be working with MTN to offer the BlackBerry solution in Uganda," said RIM Vice President and Managing Director, Charmaine Eggberry.

With its stylish design, large display, easy-to-use QWERTY keyboard and intuitive trackball navigation system, the BlackBerry Curve 8300 smartphone looks as great as it performs.

It offers a range of advanced multimedia features including desktop software that gives customers the ability to create MP3 music files from CDs, create play lists and automatically convert pictures, music and videos from a PC for playback on the smartphone.

It also comes with a 2 megapixel camera, complete with 5x digital zoom, built-in flash, self-portrait mirror and full screen viewfinder.

Photos can be saved on the smartphone, which includes an expandable memory slot for additional storage or shared easily and instantly by email, MMS or Instant Messaging. Photos can also be transferred over Bluetooth or Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable. MTN will also be offering two different BlackBerry services.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server, targeted specifically at the enterprise market, is available from MTN's Corporate Sales Division for organisations with their own email server.

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server software tightly integrates with IBM Lotus Domino, Microsoft Exchange and Novell GroupWise, providing powerful IT management capabilities as well as advanced encryption and security features to enable data security for enterprise customers.

For smaller businesses and individuals, the BlackBerry Internet Service will be available from all MTN shops. This service allows customers to access up to 10 supported POP3 or IMAP4 accounts, including most popular ISP accounts such as Gmail and Yahoo! Mail.

Customers can use the BlackBerry solution anywhere in Uganda and in over 50 countries worldwide with which MTN has data roaming agreements. The majority of European and frequently visited business destinations are included to help ensure business customers can stay in touch even whilst abroad.
