"No roads will be closed for this meeting as the organisers have undertaken that the protest will be a peaceful protest‚" spokesman Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.
Officers would be deployed to Simmonds Street in the CBD to monitor the situation from 10am until 2pm.
Truck drivers aligned to the SA Transport and Allied Workers' Union (Satawu)‚ Professional Transport and Allied Workers' Union SA‚ the Transport and Allied Workers' Union of SA‚ and the Motor Transport Workers' Union (MTWU) had been on strike over pay for a week.
On Friday, 28 September, the Labour Court granted an interdict preventing any violence during the strike after trucks were set alight or stoned and staff assaulted.
Satawu spokesman Vincent Masoga said all unions involved in the wage dispute with the Road Freight Employers' Association (RFEA) condemned the violence. He called for "iron discipline".
Unions wanted a 12% increase in pay and rejected a lower offer tabled by employers on Tuesday.
Talks were expected to continue on Wednesday.
The RFEA's executive officer‚ Magretia Brown-Engelbrecht‚ said at the weekend that three cash-in-transit member companies signed an agreement with MTWU members on Friday night‚ but that this was not sanctioned by the RFEA or any of the other unions.
She was not immediately available to comment on Monday‚ but according to a voicemail message on her phone‚ and the RFEA's Twitter feed‚ the strike would continue.
