    Transnet's 100 billion plan for Durban "old" airport

    IOL reports that, according to National Port Authority officials, Transnet's procurement of Durban's former airport site as a multibillion-rand dug-out port is close to being a "done deal".

    Hamilton Nxumalo, manager of infrastructure, port planning and development, is reported by IOL to have said the estimated R100 billion project, which has faced delays since an offer was made last year, will be finalised "in weeks". Nxumalo said the existing port was close to exceeding capacity because of growing demand and the new port, expected to begin operations between 2016 and 2018, would lighten this load.
