Speakers confirmed for Master Builders South Africa Congress

Under this year's theme of Building South Africa, the MBSA Congress will bring together industry members to encourage interactivity and discussion around construction-related goals, with the aim of facilitating growth within the South African building trade. Delegates can expect a packed programme consisting of stimulating talks from influential speakers representing a variety of sectors.

The Minister of Public Works, Thulas Nxesi, recently appealed to role players and professionals in the industry to bring their expertise to the fore and assist the government in achieving its infrastructure goals. "Having Minister Nxesi in attendance will provide a great opportunity for the construction body to engage with the government. Discussions on how best to ensure the growth of our industry, with particular regards to fund allocations, will also contribute to the growth and transformation of our country," said MBSA's president, Danie Hattingh. Minister Nxesi will be talking about his turnaround strategy for the department, as well as addressing issues faced in the construction industry and the important role it plays in job creation.

Health and safety within the industry

International speaker Dr Isabel Perry has also confirmed her attendance at the congress. As a Fortune 50 safety, health, environmental and security executive with international responsibilities and over 20 years of experience in the field, spanning from the manufacturing floor to the executive boardroom, Dr Perry is able to provide extensive insight into achieving health and safety within the industry.

Also attending is deputy vice-chancellor of Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Professor Piet Naude. As an award-winning expert on global ethics, Professor Naude has been invited to speak at numerous national and international events and will be addressing the MBSA Congress on Building Trust and Confidence - The key to personal and business success.

In addition, Associate-Professor of the Department of Construction Economics and Management at the University of Cape Town, Francois Viruly, will be drawing on more than 20 years of experience as a property economist to address the issue of What is Next in the South African Property Market?. Having undertaken extensive research on the local property cycle, Professor Viruly will be providing expert analysis and insight on this topic.

Global future trends

Further confirmed speakers include political analyst and futurist, Daniel Silke - a specialist in global future trends, international relations as well as African political and economic developments. Zarina Kellerman, executive director of the Association of Arbitrators, will also be present to address the delegates on the importance of mediation within the industry.
