The car manufacturer says the X2 "appeals most strongly to young, extrovert and active people who attach great value to individuality, genuine fun at the wheel and lifestyle matters, without wanting to leave themselves short on functionality."

With a more dynamic chassis setup and optional electronic damper control with chassis lowering, it provides effective comfort and handling.

The X2's telephony system comes with wireless charging for compatible Bluetooth mobile phones with extended functionality including handsfree operation. It also has two USB connections for shorter charging times of smartphones and tablets.

No standard or base model will be available in South Africa - only the M Sport and M Sport X packages will be offered locally (which comes with standard 19-inch wheels).

BMW claims a combined fuel consumption of 6.3–5l/100km; and combined CO2 emissions of 143–131 g/km.

Prices start at R642,200 for the M Sport model (petrol), R671,900 for the M Sport X model (petrol); and goes up to R692,900 for the M Sport model (diesel) and R722,600 for the M Sport X model (diesel).
