Production at Toyota plant halted by metalworkers' strike
Production at Toyota South Africa Motors' Prospecton Plant in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal has halted following a National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa strike by one of its component suppliers.
Members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa embarked on a protected strike at the Toyota Boshoku plant in Durban on Wednesday, 17 October.
Toyota Boshoku is an independent component supplier to Toyota South Africa Motors. It supplies seats and door panels for use in all locally produced vehicles.
It is important to note that the strike was not instigated or supported by employees of Toyota South Africa Motors and that the plant continued with planned production until the Boshoku strike stopped component supply.
The matter is dealt with by members of Toyota Boshoku South Africa and NUMSA.
