MiTV will allow Orange to establish mobile multimedia services in East Africa and the Indian Ocean, enabling each affiliate to launch its own dedicated content offering and commercial bouquets while sharing the same software platform.

Mauritius Telecom's end users will be able to access 20 live channels, eight near-live channels and eight playlists. With this service customers can also access program information via an intuitive graphical user interface and can watch TV at any time.

“Alcatel-Lucent's expertise in end-to-end multimedia deployments as well as its global scope allows us to save considerable time from deployment to commercial launch,” commented Sarat Lallah, CEO of Mauritius Telecom. “Our customers now benefit from high value mobile TV services that turn their mobile device into a personal TV that is always with them.”

Alcatel-Lucent will manage the network design, integration, installation, commissioning and the design of the end-user interface. It contains the MiTV Compact platform, with all of the MiTV unicast features, consisting of Envivio encoders, and the Alcatel-Lucent 5910 Mobile Streaming Server.

“With the Alcatel-Lucent mobile interactive TV, Mauritius Telecom has the opportunity to establish a dominant position in the Mauritius mobile TV market and create a new growing revenue stream from their investment in high capacity networks,” said Amr El Leithy, head of Alcatel-Lucent's activities in Africa and the Middle East. “It is the first deployment of the MiTV Compact platform in an emerging country - highlighting this solution's ability to deliver quick market entry at a low cost.”
