Frontpageafrica shortlisted for Special One World Award
The judging panel, headed by OWM's Chair, John Willis, spent weeks working through an outstanding range of entries from across the world. Willis said: "It is staggering and chastening to see the breadth and the value of the work being done by small organisations increasingly working in often underfunded and hostile conditions with scant resources and limited support. We are delighted to have such strong finalists."
Each year, the Award recognises an independent media organisation based in a developing country using media to address social, cultural, political and economic issues. The Award seeks to recognise and encourage outstanding reporting that informs the public, provides an outlet for local people's voices, creates a space for critical information and holds those in power to account.
This year's winner will receive a three-week placement on a professional training program, the CNN Journalism Fellowship at their headquarters in Atlanta, USA. The winning organisation will be announced at the One World Media Awards ceremony at BAFTA in London on 18th June.
Last year's winner was Premium Times, based in Abuja, Nigeria. Now in its 27th year, the One World Media Awards recognise excellence in media coverage of the developing world.
