Researchers from institutions including Harvard University, the Broad Institute of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the South African National Bioinformatics Institute within University of the Western Cape (UWC) and Rhodes University (RU), have decoded the genome of the African coelacanth. 
On Monday, 22 April 2013, the 92-year-old clipper The Sedov docked at Quay 6 at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, a full 77 years after she last visited Cape Town in 1936. Sailing with just under 40 trainee sailors on board, she will remain there until her departure for Walvis Bay in Namibia on Wednesday, 24 April at 4pm. 
Shipping line Safmarine has been recognised for its 21 year commitment to community development.
