Empire magazine's forth issue was launched at Saxon, Johannesburg on 28 February 2008 being the freshest publication from the Business Century stable, also home to the Maverick business magazine.
Empire's editorial premise is simple: art is a mirror of life, and to understand what is happening in South Africa we need to look at what it happening in its creative industries. “South Africa is a land in transition, looking for a new identity, deciding on what it values, and what it rejects. The media and the artists of this country reflect this struggle, create new values, and shape how people see things. It is a responsibility that we hold, to be a faithful reflection of life, as well as being energetic creators of it,” says Kevin Bloom, co-editor of Empire.
The magazine is published every four weeks, always containing a selection of hard-hitting feature stories, as well as the opinions of regular commentators that flay those they disagree with sharpened pens.
