| The roses were pruned | Well, now that the World Cup is over and many of us are nursing a headache or two, it's back to business. But before we do, quite a few companies, quite rightly, used the World Cup to promote their brand - and, of course, urge the Bokke to victory. The question is - how many of those advertisements will we remember? For me, the choice is easy - those that made me laugh - and they mainly came from a certain chicken fast-food franchise that are anything but chicken when it comes to using humour in their adverts to send up everything from getting stoned to being part of the gay community. And they came up trumps again. On Saturday afternoon I caught a glimpse of a TV ad that was text only, to the effect: "The sun is shining, there's not a cloud in the sky. It's time to prune the roses." Yesterday in the weekend press, there was some "humble pie" for the Brits and a leading retail chain also got into the act "but not in English". Humour - if it's clever - tends to stick in the mind, and hence, so does the brand.
