After opening up our regional Johannesburg office in Rivonia, we realised we would have to add some staff, so a big welcome to Pierrette Spadoni, who is in charge of sales for Johannesburg for Bizcommunity.com. And at our Cape Town HQ, with the stunning view of Table Mountain (we're so jealous in Jozi!), there was the odd spot left to fill, which we have done so, with the super-efficient Gail Erispe, admin controller; as well as "IT guy" Mathew McLeod, who is assisting us on the IT development side. And not forgetting Cheryl Hunter, formerly of The Star media & marketing, who is contributing with special features and on various editorial projects. A big welcome to these, the newest members of Team Biz!

Have a good one! Louise Marsland, Editor, editor@bizcommunity.com

    Advertising
    Mature, but not old
The global exercise to rebrand the world's oldest advertising agency from J. Walter Thompson to JWT, entails far more than simply changing signs outside head office. Peter Sham, CEO of JWT South Africa, says: "It's no exaggeration to say that J. Walter Thompson had been a global brand of considerable significance for many years; within the world of advertising and communications, it's been as powerful and respected as Coke and Pepsi, so the decision to alter the status quo was not taken lightly.

    ASA on the receiving end
The Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa (ASASA) has received international recognition for its ability to raise awareness of advertising self-regulation among the public and across the marketing communications industry.

Charl Nel, business director of 9November, says a well-chosen small creative agency can offer fringe causes the same level of advertising exposure as a huge multi-national advertising agency.

    Healthy bites
Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to one of Nando's revamped "health-food" stores of course. The new "chicken crossing the road" campaign created by Riot in Cape Town involves temporary street signs in the vicinity of revamped Nando's stores, sporting the well-known chicken logo and warning motorists to beware chickens crossing. There is also a kerbside "chicken" handing out informative flyers.

    Competing with the best
In the recently announced finalist list for the 2005 Roger Garlick Award, Net#work BBDO is named in three of the seven categories.
