Johannesburg mayor: public transport is the way forward
Executive Mayor Mpho Parks Tau on Friday outlined his declaration on "eco-mobility" with strong emphasis on using public transport as the way forward. This came after bustling Sandton streets were last week closed off for traffic in an effort to promote using public transport, cycling and walking. Nico Bezuidenhout says airline price war will hurt
The price war in the South African low-cost airline industry will most likely continue until one or more of the current four carriers exit, Mango CEO Nico Bezuidenhout told Fin24 on Friday at the 45th annual general assembly of the Airlines Association of Southern Africa. "This market is over traded and over supplied. The average load factor in the SA industry is below 80%, while in a more mature market like the US, for instance, it is over 83%," he said. 12 Oct 2015

Statistics show decrease in aircraft accidents
Data released by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) during the National Safety Seminar indicate that between 01 April 2014 and 31 March 2015 (the SACAA's financial year), aircraft accidents declined from 144 the year prior to 120 resulting in 17% decrease. The number of fatal accidents came down from 27 to 16 resulting in a 41% reduction; whilst the number of fatalities from accidents declined from 41 to 26 translating into a 37% reduction. 8 Oct 2015

The failure of control-tower equipment at OR Tambo International Airport left dozens of planes grounded and thousands of passengers frustrated yesterday. The problems slowed international and local arrivals and departures at Africa's busiest airport to a snail's pace.
