Emfuleni Resorts has outlined its proposal to develop a R1.3 billion mixed-use development on currently under-utilised land in the Boardwalk Precinct in Port Elizabeth. The Boardwalk Mall would include a retail mall, a multi-purpose events venue, entertainment offerings and corporate offices. Construction on the R950 million Springs Mall at Blue Crane Eco Park development is well underway according to the main contractor, Giuricich Bros. The 46,000m² regional shopping centre is on schedule to open before Easter 2017. 1 Mar 2016
Green light for Walvis Bay shopping mall development
The development of a new R650 million mall in Walvis Bay, Namibia, has been announced. Atterbury is the joint developer and co-owner of the newly named Dunes Mall, previously called the Erongo Mall development. Bulk earthworks on the mall began in November 2015 and it is due to open to the public late in 2017. 26 Feb 2016
Co-developers extend Musina Mall
The Moolman Property Group and Investec Property Fund have announced the extension of the existing Great North Plaza Shopping Centre. The co-developers broke ground for the new development on 16 November 2015, and the anticipated date of opening is April 2017. 15 Feb 2016

The new multimillion rand Tugela Ferry Mall and Jozini Shopping Centre in rural KwaZulu-Natal have been trading very well since opening and both have had an excellent festive season, according to Gavin Tagg, CEO of Retail Network Services - the retail leasing and development company responsible for leasing both centres. SA still a preferred location for international retailers, report finds

Almost one-third of European retailers view Africa as an important future destination in the next three to five years, real estate advisor, CBRE has advised. In a recent report, CBRE surveyed the expansion plans of 115 leading retailers. Over the next five years, one-third see Africa as extremely or very important retail destination with 28% of respondents viewing South Africa, Egypt (19%) and Nigeria (16%) as key priority markets. 14 Jan 2016
