'Queen of the Ring' Sabine Schmitz dies
The Nürburgring racetrack said the following in a statement: "The Nürburgring has lost its most famous female racing driver. Sabine Schmitz passed away far too early after a long illness. We will miss her and her cheerful nature. Rest in peace Sabine."

Schmitz became famous after she raced Jeremy Clarkson around Germany's Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in a Ford Transit Van on British television show Top Gear in 2004. She was also known for driving the BMW 'ring taxi' around the Nürburgring race track as well as being a television personality.

The German star revealed via Facebook in 2020 that she had been battling cancer since 2017.
