Evoques handed over to ambassadors
The four were: Hlubi Mboya, best known for her role as HIV positive Nandipha in the daily soap, Isidingo and HIV/AIDS ambassador throughout Africa; and Dr Sarah Britten, a strategic planning director by day and blogger and writer by night; Craig Jacobs, brainchild behind local Eco fashion brand, Fundudzi; and Siphiwe Mpye, associate editor of GQ Magazine and recently voted one of South Africa's most stylish men.
Hlubi Mboya chose the Fuji White just for a complete change from her two previous Freelanders, which were Santorini Black. "My choice for the Dynamic Sport is that it is closer to the ground it has a real urban feel and very fierce - which suits my personality perfectly. Three doors represent my urban nature and still having fun in my city - no kids attached. The wheels really give my Evoque a hip hop feel and an urban groove and the Audio/Sound system represents my love and excuse to party and if a girl can't get to the club, the club will be in her Evoque!"
Sarah Britten wanted a cool, classical look, "which is why I went for Fuji White and the Ambiance interior. White is a practical colour in a hot country and I love the sexiness of the three-door coupe. The botanical effect was my way of adding a bit of a feminine touch too. I opted for relatively conservative 19 inch rims because potholes are a fact of life in South Africa, especially on the route to my family's game farm near the Kruger Park - a drive I plan to do regularly in my Evoque."
Siphiwe Mpye chose the Dynamic Sport. "I chose Santorini black as the colour is very sleek and in Wesley Snipes' eternal words: 'You should always bet on black' I have never had a five-door car, its time I grew up - and my girlfriend and son will for once appreciate not having to jump over the front seat.
Steering wheel, exception couture theme (dark cherry) - You have to coordinate, right? My choice for the wheels is that they are sporty yet not over the top. Love the 20 inch tyres, the handling ability to which they contributes is a great bonus. The Audio System was an easy one as sound is very important to me, it adds to the overall experience, especially since I am huge music fan. I chose park assist - I am a good driver, but this should be a fun party trick. I included Dynamic Mode - handling, handling, handling."
Craig Jacob says "Colour plays an important aspect of my life as a fashion entrepreneur, and I wanted a combination which reflects my future focused outlook as well as a colour palette which is bold and confident.
It took me a nano-second to lock onto Indus Silver - it feels futuristic and I can imagine the bolts of light others will see as I make my way through Joburg traffic. Moreover, the colour will definitely shimmer in the brightness of the African sun!
To complement the sleek design, I felt the combination of the Shadow Chrome 20 inch wheels with the contrast spoiler and roof in Santorini Black gives my Evoque a sense of contemporary elegance. And then, as you slide inside, the sport seats and interiors in the bold Pimento colour scheme is unquestionably the choice of a creative like myself.
Considering that it wasn't long ago that I shied away from driving, many of my friends and family are bound to be surprised that I have elected to go for the sport styling of the Dynamic Plus edition - but the lines and contrast stitching were aesthetics I was drawn immediately to. Oh, and why did I decide on a five seater? Well, whether it's picking up fabrics or transporting samples to the boutiques I supply during the week or heading to the park with my mom and her little Maltese Terrier, Caspar, the more spacious version fits perfectly in my lifestyle."
