Strategic sectors in Namibia
Agriculture is one of Namibia's prime sectors and is currently among the biggest employers in the country creating an estimated 35,000 direct jobs and 150,000 indirect jobs to families who depend on the workforce.
Although Namibia's agriculture - excluding fishing - contributed less than 5% of Namibia's GDP in 2003, about 75% of Namibians basically derive their livelihoods from the sector, mostly in the subsistence sector. In 2003, food and live animal exports constituted roughly 15% of total Namibian exports.
