South Africa's Official Oscar Submission for Best Foreign Language Film, Four Corners, is recipient of a Best International Film Nomination from the International Press Academy in Los Angeles. The South African coming-of-age film, set in the 'unknown world of the Cape Flats', was completed only twelve weeks ago and is a newcomer in a field of well-established competitors in the International Film category.

Two films currently in production, one local and one international, both deal with the contemporary Cape Flats gangland crisis that has continued to make headlines throughout the year. Principal photography wrapped this week on Four Corners, the Cape ganglands coming-of-age thriller directed by Ian Gabriel and produced by Giant Films and Moonlighting Films with producers Genevieve Hofmeyr and Cindy Gabriel. Meanwhile cameras have started to roll on international French crime drama Zulu, also set in the Cape Flats, starring Orlando Bloom and Forest Whitaker.

In a bold move to ensure future sustainability and profit, Ster-Kinekor today, 16 March 2005, announced price cuts of over 50% to R14 a ticket for its rebranded affordable cinema chain, 'Ster-Kinekor Junction' which will see 70% of current sites rebranded by this long weekend. CEO, Ferdi Gazendam, expects cinema attendance to increase from 16.5 million to a staggering 26 million over the next financial year as a result (2005/2006, ending-June).
