"I said it, Mr Blatter, not Kulula."

"I said it, Mr Blatter, not Kulula."
[Herman Manson] Kulula.com supposedly said something nasty about Joseph 'Sepp' Blatter and it made the front page of The Mercury. And the Cape Times. It ran in The Star. Then SAPA picked it up and it was everywhere - News24, The Sowetan, East Coast Radio. Only the comments in question were not made by the tweeps over at @kulula, which originally broke the news on Twitter that FIFA has demanded it drop its tongue in cheek ‘Unofficial National Carrier of the ‘You Know What' campaign. It was I, Mr Blatter.

[Tiffany Markman] A recent article on ‘Getting the most from a freelance copywriter or editor' sparked lots of comments, but the majority came from freelancers with payment questions. So Jo Duxbury (of the brilliant Freelancentral and the spanking new Peppermint Source) and I have collaborated in order to answer them.

Wrestlerish - The Rude Mechanical

Wrestlerish - The Rude Mechanical
[Ruth Cooper] Wrestlerish walk the pop tightrope with their mix of heartfelt catchy tunes in their self-produced debut album; The Rude Mechanical. For the most part they do this with aplomb and class but now and again I feel like they seesaw towards a far too soppy sound. (How's that for mixing metaphors?) Though my opinion on this varies greatly on my mood, sometime I can listen to the album and love it all but at other times there are tracks that just sound too cutesy…

Henrie Geyser[Henrie Geyser] The worst appears to be over. Car dealers who have been through a torrid time in the past 18 months can expect things to improve as the year progresses, with the used car market leading the way.

Just how damaging are service delivery protests for 2010?

Just how damaging are service delivery protests for 2010?
[Dr Nikolaus Eberl] When Jeremy Maggs interviewed International Marketing Council (IMC) chair Anitha Soni earlier this week as to just how much damage the recent service delivery protests have caused to South Africa's brand image, in view of the impending 2010 FIFA World Cup, deja vu of previous world cup hosts kept flashing before my eyes - it appears that the months running up to the big event tend to be beset by problems and challenges alike, ever since the 1990 World Cup held in Italy.

A reporter's personal story about brush with untouchables
[Stephen Grootes] It's a terrible sight. To see your colleague, the guy you've bonded with, your mate, your brother in journalistic arms, kicking and screaming and shouting for help. He's being held back, five large black-suited men surrounding him, shouting at him, ignoring the legal definition of assault and simply not giving a rat's arse.

Africa: less than 1 million country domain sites - survey

Issa Sikiti da Silva[Issa Sikiti da Silva] The latest revelation that Africa has less than 1 million country domain websites is a sign that the continent still favours priorities such as poverty eradication, land redistribution, basic health care, clean water and education, among others, ahead of developing its technological capacities. Vika Mpisane, GM of .ZADNA, made the revelation during the presentation of .za market research survey yesterday, Tuesday, 16 March 2010, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Rosebank, Johannesburg.

Gwen Watkins commented on Govt departments stealing ideas for friends?

Which is precisely why I have a copyright clause that states - “Freelancers Writing Services CC retains the copyright to the contents of this presentation, together with its concepts, strategic input, promotional ideas, public relations and media proposals. It may not be used or be transferred to a third party in any form whatsoever without the prior written consent of Freelancers Writing Services CC.” At least this way, it is made very clear that copyright is being broken (and you may all use the wording for your contracts, I am happy to share). As for the idea that the would-be provider will “certainly be ostracised and blacklisted to the point of never getting any more government business," it is already clear the he or she is not getting it anyway. It’s a bit like complaining about clients who don’t pay but can’t be reminded for fear they be ‘offended’ - they are not clients, they are bad debt.

Can Couchsurfing turbocharge last-minute bookings for 2010?
[Dr Nikolaus Eberl] When the International Travel Bourse (ITB) held in Berlin declared the 2010 edition closed on Sunday, 14 March 2010, the unanimous conclusion was that last year's downcast industry mood of recession has been replaced with buoyant hopes of a sooner-than-expected recovery, as 187 countries, including South Africa, vie with one another to lure European visitors to their parts of the world.
