R150k worth of prizes to be won in Canon competition

Leading up to the first Canon exhibition in South Africa, 9-11 December 2011 at Sandton Convention Centre, the company will host a major photographic competition offering over R150 000 worth of prizes, making it one of the biggest and most creative photographic competitions ever run by Canon.

The free expo will showcase the brand's entire range of consumer imaging and select business solutions products.

According to Michelle Janse van Vuuren, marketing manager at Canon South Africa, the usual end-of-year EOS roadshow will be incorporated into the expo on 10 December 2011, giving visitors a chance to learn a few tricks of the trade from professional photographers.

    Photo competition themes

By 13 November 2011, entrants need to submit their photographic interpretation of the five competition themes - candlelight; circles; through a child's eye; it's in the detail; and toy stories. Selected entries will be exhibited online on the website as well as on the expo's Facebook site.

Canon is inviting a no holds barred approach on how photographers interpret the themes, the company is explicit that photographic submissions must be produced using Canon equipment only. Entrants can also only submit one entry per category but there is no limit on the number of categories a person enters.

The top 10 entries in each category will also be exhibited in the gallery at the expo. "We believe that our expo will provide a suitable platform for showcasing the exceptional photographic talent that we know exists in South Africa," says Janse van Vuuren.
