Radio showsSpecial sectionsRelated sectors | Media news Last call for Mondi Awards, Alan Kirkland Soga awardSouth Africa's newspaper journalists, graphic artists, cartoonists and photographers should send in their best work between 1 January 2010 and 1 January 2011 for the 10th annual Mondi Shanduka Newspaper Awards. There is also a last call for nominations for the Alan Kirkland Soga Achievement Award. The award recognise a sustained and extraordinary contribution to newspaper journalism from an individual who has dedicated his or her life to South African newspaper journalism and has least 20 years journalism experience, demonstrating unquestionable ethical conduct and immaculate writing skills. Entry and nomination deadlines are 4 February 2011. Apart from marking a decade of Mondi Shanduka's support of newspaper journalism, this year's competition also marks the 20th anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration, when African journalists laid down a key foundation for press freedom. Professor Guy Berger of Rhodes University and judging convenor will be joined on the panel by Pippa Green, Jodi Bieber, Joe Latakgomo, Tyrone August, David Wightman, Martie Retief Meiring, Juby Mayet, Liesl Louw, Mathatha Tsedu, Tumi Makgabo, Paula Fray, Peter Sullivan, Arrie Rossouw, Adrienne Sichel and Mike Siluma.
