Rocking the Mountain Ram

A newsletter of musical announcements we bring you this fine Spring day. Hip Hop and R&B lovers will be pleased to hear that international acts, Kendrik Lamar and Maxwell will be touring SA in November and December respectively, while indie pop British band Bastille has just been announced to be performing in Cape Town and Joburg in January next year.

Both White Mountain Festival and Rocking the Daisies have announced their full festival lineups, while Ramfest, way ahead of the game, has just announced five international acts for 2014! In other news of the musical variety, Fokof fan Natalie Jardine reports back on Fokofpolisiekar's DVD launch at the Two Oceans Aquarium, while Daniel Dercksen reviews the sassy musical, Footloose, now on at the Masque Theatre.

Eugene Yiga gives his thoughts on groundbreaking production, I Hit the Ground Running, and Dercksen reviews Neil Blomkamp's latest futuristic film, Elysium.

Last, but not least, two tickets to the White Mountain Festival in KZN and the Park Acoustics Cape Town debut are up for grabs!

Come into the Garden at the V&A Waterfront

[Sindy Peters] This year's Kirstenbosch Gardens Chelsea Flower Show entry added yet another medal to its awards tally after scooping top prize for it's Come into the Garden exhibition. The display, featured at the Royal Botanic Garden in Kew, London, has been recreated and is currently available for public viewing at the V&A Waterfront's Clocktower area until 24 September. Marie Claire Trunk Show returns

Marie Claire's Trunk Show is back and with more than 60 local fashion designers showcasing their wares under one roof, shoppers will be spoilt for choice. Included in the line-up are designers Adriaan Kuiters, Craig Jacobs, Hermana Rush, Stoned Cherrie. The show takes place on 10 October at the Neighbourgoods Market in Joburg from 5pm to 9pm. Bastille coming to SA in January

"But if you close your eyes, does it almost feel like nothing changed at all," will echo through the valleys of Kirstenbosch Gardens and the parks of Emmarentia Dam next year when Bastille are coming to SA for the first time and will perform two live shows in Cape Town on 8 January and Joburg on 11 January 2014. Five international acts announced for RAMfest 2014

RAMfest 2014, to be held from 6 to 9 March at Elandskloof, Villiersdorp, Western Cape and from 6 to 9 March, 2014 at Witfontein, JR 512, Bronkhorstspruit, Gauteng, will feature Biffy Clyro (Scotland), Killswitch Engage (US), Camo and Krooked (Austria) featuring Dynamite MC (UK), Foals (UK) and Trivium (US). Singer-songwriter Maxwell to tour SA

Two-time Grammy Award-winning soul superstar Maxwell is to perform two concerts, on Thursday, 5 December at Cape Town's Grandwest and Saturday, 7 December, 2013, at the Coca-Cola Dome, Joburg. Both concerts begin at 8pm. Tickets go on sale from 9am on Thursday, 5 September at Computicket. Read more >>

Line-up for White Mountain 2013 announced

This year's White Mountain Festival, at which you can unwind in a stunning setting while enjoying acoustic performances by some of the best live acts in the country, will run from 20 to 24 September, 2013, held 25km (tarred road) off the N3 towards Giant's Castle at White Mountain Lodge in KwaZulu-Natal. Kendrick Lamar in three-city tour of SA

Miller Genuine Draft has announced the return of Miller Boomtown featuring international rapper Kendrick Lamar, live in SA this summer. The three-city South African tour kicks off at the CTICC, Cape Town on 7 November before moving to the Johannesburg Stadium on 8 November and Durban's Wave House on 9 November, priced between R350 and R1900.
