Mid-year magic

How the time does speed by... Sunday, 30 June marked mid-year - crazy to think that we have already entered the second half of 2013. Luckily, there are many worthwhile entertainment options in store to keep that time flying at lightning speed.

Current theatre production doing the rounds is the ever popular Broadway musical Jersey Boys. Eugene Yiga is thoroughly impressed, while Debbie Hathway interviews Jersey Boys choreographer and cast member Duane Alexander.

And speaking of interviews, I do two this past week; one with SA songstress Louise Carver about her new album and tour, and I chat to Craig Steyn, founder of EuroTrashMusic, an online radio station and blog. In other music news, international bands; Deftones and Yellowcard are announced to play at GrandWest in August.

Another international act that has just been confirmed to tour SA is the wonderfully wacky and irreverent Russel Brand. He will be bringing his tour "Messiah Complex" to Joburg and Cape Town in November.

Our resident motoring editor Henrie Geyser reviews three new automotive releases; the comfortable Honda Accord Touring, the purrrfect Jaguar V6, and the souped up Hyundai Sonata.

And good news, the deadline to enter our GoPro reader competition has been extended till 15 July, and we also have tickets to give away to Kidofdoom's reunion tour in Pretoria and Durban!

Tourer made for comfortable family cruising

Jag V6 is a kitty with sharp claws
[Henrie Geyser: motoring editor] The first thought that came into my mind when I saw (and heard!) the new Jaguar XJ V6 was mirrored by what the famous old crooner Frank Sinatra said when he saw the new Jaguar E-Type being unveiled at the New York car show in 1961: "I want that car. And I want it now." Read more >>

Having experienced all Superman films on the big screen and viewing 10 years of the series Smallville, Man of Steel comes with loaded baggage and a celebrated history that could easily deflate its status and turn it into "just another Superman movie".
