Increased production at Ford's Silverton Assembly Plant and Struandale Engine Plant has resulted in the creation of 800 new positions. Ford will add a second shift to its Silverton Assembly Plant and a third shift at its Struandale Engine Plant on 3 September, due to continued strong demand for the Ford Ranger pick-up truck. Training of potential employees to fill the new positions began in June this year. 
Government and the mining sector have agreed on the need to beef up the manner in which the sector negotiates conditions of employment. 
Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant today met with the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) representatives in Rustenburg in a bid to defuse the tensions at mines in Marikana.
