| No Comment | Despite that fact that we didn't achieve Oscar glory this year, who could not but feel a sense of pride as we heard "'Yesterday' - from South Africa" announced up there with the rest of the foreign films at the annual Academy Awards on Sunday/Monday. Well done to the South African film industry! It was rather an action packed week last week, with wall-to-wall events and functions, such as the release of the rather dismal ABCs and the delicious Design Indaba. The week also included Bizcommunity.com's opening of satellite offices in Johannesburg! As part of our commitment to provide our readers with continual innovation, we are focusing this year on increased sales service and news provision, resulting in the need for an official base in Johannesburg. Bizcommunity.com is still headquartered at the Bandwidth Barn in Cape Town, where it has been since launching in 2001. The address of the Johannesburg Bureau, headed up by yours truly as Editor, is: Sutton Square, The Business Centre 1st Floor, cnr Gemsbok & 12th Avenue, Rivonia.
Have a good one! Louise Marsland, Editor, editor@bizcommunity.com

| | | The morning after... Design Indaba [Terry Levin] First slot of the last day of the Indaba is not a favourite for speakers, due to the rigors of the customary Thursday night party. The task went to Chip Kidd, famous New York book designer, who is a bit like all the characters out of Will and Grace rolled into one - only funnier.
The 'design' of the Construction New Media awards [Sue Disler] With a record amount of entries in competition this year and categories being added and refined - it seems fitting that the Construction New Media Awards' association to the Design Indaba has allowed Design to become its quintessential criteria.
Design Indaba: Lifestyle trends of the year [Terry Levin] If someone says something can't be improved on, he is not to be taken seriously. The word 'designer' has been applied to any more-or-less well turned out product - improvement to almost anything can be achieved by as little design as possible. This was the view of Dieter Rams, head of Braun in Germany since 1961, speaking at Design Indaba yesterday, Thursday, 24 February 2005, in Cape Town.
Design Indaba: The future will be by visionary thinkers [Terry Levin] If the presentation Thursday of the co-founder of trend forecast company Future Laboratory, in the UK, Martin Raymond, is anything to go by, the future, through the rose spectacles of design at any rate, is looking exquisite. The new global consumer is self-actualised and buys for emotional, rather than rational reasons and products of the near future will need to anticipate this.
Let's talk about Design [Terry Levin] A veritable feast of design, inspiration, innovation, creativity and skill is being showcased at Design Indaba 8, which was opened Wednesday, 23 February 2005, by, you've guessed it, Western Cape Premier Ebrahim Rassool, with his customary sense of occasion and well chosen words about the importance of design in the transformation of our society. He reiterated the support of government and the DTI for the Indaba and design in general.
