Industry events with 700 delegates - mostly international - are few and too far between in South Africa. Usually we contend with the same speakers, recycled several times a year for poorly attended conferences in the media and marketing industries. Bizcommunity.com would like to give the organizers of the World Print Congress 8 in Cape Town, the Print Industries Federation of South Africa (PIFSA), a round of applause for the superb organization of WPC8, in particularly PIFSA CEO, Chris Sykes and his team, including Romy Meurer of The Write Agency, for the best media support and state-of-the-art media room that I have experienced at a conference/expo. Also, kudos to the very efficient Cape Town Convention Centre staff - it's not easy filing a daily ezine from a conference without assistance from the organizers and their support teams, who have a large international media contingent to contend with, supporting the international delegations, translators and events around the conference programme.

Have a good one! Louise Marsland, Editor, editor@bizcommunity.com

Newspapers' role in influencing opinion is dead
[Louise Marsland] The print industry now competes with alternative media and technologies that did not exist less than two decades ago. The fact that newspapers are not the main influence of public opinion any longer, is just one of the threats to the survival of the printing industry being debated by the international print industry, which has gathered in Cape Town to debate these and other challenges at the eighth global World Print Congress (WPC8).

WPC8 is crucial for the survival of the print industry
[Louise Marsland] Advertising is the driver of the print industry and the print industry needs to start working more closely with the media and marketers in order to survive, says Chris Sykes, Printing Federation of South Africa (PIFSA) CEO and chief organizer of the World Print Congress 8 (WPC8), being hosted by South Africa at the International Convention Centre in Cape Town.

Leadership for tomorrow - paradigms need to change
The study of leadership is not new. Countless theories abound regarding just how 'to be a leader'. Most of which are enticingly wrapped in 'seven easy steps' or 'five essentials' that promise quick-fix answers to what it is to be a leader. "Such publications are consumed with relish, yet appear to have had little impact as we hurtle into a century that guarantees nothing but change, uncertainty and the promise that yesterday's success will count for little in tomorrow's world," says TomorrowToday.biz Director of Story Telling, Keith Coats.

Increase website traffic by giving them what they want
[Gallianno Cosme] Yes, it is true... to increase website traffic you need links pointing to your site. But not any old links. Sure, many internet marketers still believe that link building, both one way and reciprocal, is the way to go. I find this to be an outdated method that wastes time that could be otherwise spent implementing other far better ideas.
