| No Comment | A Happy New Year to all our readers, advertisers and contributors - may all your dreams come true in 2005, from us all at Bizcommunity.com! It's a pity that it sometimes takes tragedies such as the Tsunami disaster in December to make people realise how precious every moment is in the here and now. Too many people just live in the future. But on that note, to aid and assist your business in 2005, we bring you the predictions of up and coming trends in our industry this year - across media, marketing, advertising, branding, communications, etc - that Bizcommunity.com has sourced from experts in our industry. May it be your best business year yet!
Enjoy! Louise Marsland, Editor, editor@biz-community.com

| Marketing | | Top industry trends for 2005 [Louise Marsland] If you are blogging regularly, have your Blackberry on order, know what 3G is (not a 3rd G-spot you have no hope of finding anyway), have Craig Native in your wardrobe, know what the Feminine Factor is (nothing to do with Fear Factor!), then you're so up-to-date on coming trends that you might as well stop reading now. However, if you don't even know what I'm talking about, best you resign your job right now and take up vegetable farming! Without a doubt, new technology options will have the greatest influence on media, marketing and communications options in the future, globally.
International trends show China is hot news Global advertising expenditure for the past year (2004) is likely to rise by 6.9% year-on-year, to around $370 billion ($276.32bn; £190.97bn), predicts international media network ZenithOptimedia, which also says that ad expenditures in the Asia Pacific region will overtake that of Europe within the next 10 years. Europe currently spends around $94.4bn annually (26% of total world advertising), while Asia-Pacific generates $75.6bn (20%).
Top brand trends for 2005 Bizcommunity.com asked two of South Africa's leading brand specialists to unpack branding trends for the coming year. HKLM's top five branding trends and Interbrand Sampson's annual Top 10, clearly indicate that ethics and increased accountability are increasingly important when building lasting brands and tapping into consumers' values.
The year that was - and events to diarise [Louise Marsland] The year that was, 2004, was certainly one characterized by painful labour pains in the media, marketing and advertising industry as the Marketing Federation of South Africa almost drove the industry's biggest showcase, the Loerie Awards, to extinction, but began much needed research to benchmark transformation, as the advertising industry beat marketers to the BEE barometer with the launch of its empowerment scorecard.
Blog is word of the year Now here's an indicator that "blogs" and "blogging" took the world by storm last year - the American Merriam-Webster dictionary publishers dubbed "blog" as word of the year for 2004. They chose blog to mark the rise in influence of bloggers, who are simultaneously courted, ridiculed and feared. Blog is cyberspeak for Web Log - an online diary of commentary about anything from attacking company reputations, to your personal reflections. Ignore the rise of blogging at your peril.
