The marketing industry was found wanting last week at the parliamentary hearings into racism in the media & communications sector, which includes advertising and marketing. Poor participation from marketing companies in an online benchmarking BEE survey means the project will probably have to be relaunched - but this time parliament will probably have some say in providing the "impetus". Held up against presentations by the National Association of Broadcasters and the ad industry, represented by the Association for Communication and Advertising (ACA), among others - the Marketing Federation of SA had very little to report, unfortunately. Basically, Government will now have a say, as the Portfolio Committee tasked with this job, agreed to present the matter of the industry's transformation to a full sitting of Parliament in order to plan the way forward and to assist the Industry Working Group in breaking the impasse in which it currently finds itself.

Have a good one! Louise Marsland, Editor, editor@bizcommunity.com

"While machines and technology have made these processes easier and faster, still they are very much driven by the skill and passion of the individual. Which is why Vergelegen is such an appropriate venue for this award, which is focused on encouraging, honouring and rewarding excellence."

Transformation - the role of training and education
The advertising industry is transitioning and competition and shrinking margins are forcing agencies to adopt new business models. On one level the transition process is being driven by a demand for new communications solutions, where varied communications disciplines work together, enabling agencies to deliver integrated campaigns that maximise the value of client expenditure.

How to make your presentation an experience

[Grant Henry] Brand damage can be a slow process, a chipping away at your most valuable asset. Or it can be a catastrophe that shatters your brand in a flash. Are you geared for damage control?
