Honouring Nigeria's enterprising females under 25

Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa, with one of the largest youth populations in the world. Needless to say, identifying the issues that affect the Nigerian youth and providing solutions to them is critical to the overall growth and development of the nation.

One of the major issues facing the nation today is unemployment, and this is an issue that largely affects the youth population. Graduates are emerging from Nigerian institutions every day yet there are not enough jobs to cater to the influx of young people into the labor market. This has contributed largely to the growing trend of entrepreneurship amongst young people in Nigeria.

Nigerian youths are now finding creative ways to add value in their various chosen fields of endeavour, turning their passions into profit and even providing people with employment opportunities. This brave feat by the millennials must be commended, as it is very important to the growth and development of the nation.

A very important segment in the youth population that has begun to gain both national and international relevance is the female economy. Young women are beginning to dominate industries such as fashion and beauty, lifestyle, hospitality, entertainment and even fields that were previously believed to be male dominated such as the medical industry and the aviation industry. It is in recognition of this, that today SME 100 unveils the leading ladies of the 25 under 25 Initiative. This Initiative recognises the contributions of 25 outstanding women under the age of 25 to national growth and development.

This initiative is supported by Omar Gardens. Omar Gardens is a landscape and horticulture company providing excellent garden solutions to its numerous clients since 1990. Omar Gardens is 25 years this year and in commemoration with it's anniversary the company is honouring 25 young female entrepreneurs under the age of 25 who have contributed to Nigeria's socio-economic development.

The Honourees were honoured on Thursday 17 December 2015 in Victoria Island Lagos. With the Special Guest of Honor: Sen Oluremi Tinubu handling out the certificate of recognition to the Honourees.
