Ford, Toyota venture to build hybrids
Ford and Toyota are to work together on a joint venture to building hybrid systems that will be used in pick-up trucks and sport utility vehicles according to a report published by the Mail & Guardian.
The M&G says that the companies signed a deal on earlier this week to share development costs of the hybrid system in an effort to make the vehicles more affordable for customers.
While both companies already have smaller hybrid vehicles, strong engines are needed to pull heavy loads required for pick-up trucks. Ford intends to launch hybrid versions of its F-series trucks while Toyota will use the system in its Tundra range.
