SADC is food insecure due to escalating staple-food prices, research claims

In the recently launched global food security index, sponsored by DuPont, the Economist Intelligence identified the Southern African Development Community (SADC) as the most food insecure region, Independent Online says.
Craig Binetti, the president of nutrition and health at DuPont, said the research had looked at factors such as affordability, availability, safety and quality when determining food security, reports Independent Online.

The research had established "massive swings" in prices of some staple foods, such as wheat, maize and rice.

However, the research has been met with some scepticism from local experts, according to Independent Online.
