By: Walter Wafula

Thousands of university students in Uganda have the opportunity to own a new Nissan Tida, the seventh the company has given away. The offer has been made by Uganda Telecom (UT) is its latest promotion dubbed Jazz My Life.

The promotion targets students who are connected to UT's jazz profile and was unveiled to the press at Makerere University the nation's premier tertiary institution, on February 28.

Levi Nyakundi, UT's Marketing Manager said, “The promotion is geared to rewarding loyal Uganda Telecom Jazz customers at the universities and other tertiary institutions across the country.”

He added that through Jazz My Life, customers will talk more and win a Nissan Tiida. “The criterion for entry is usage of UGX2,000 airtime. Every UGX2,000 used rewards the customer with an immediate UGX400 bonus airtime and a chance to enter into the draw to win,” Nyakundi added.

Students from all universities and other tertiary institutions in Uganda with valid institution ID are eligible to enter the draw to win. Uganda has more than 10 universities, with a total of at least 100,000 students.

In addition to this promotion, the company will initiate other promotional activities for six selected universities alongside the New Tiida campaign. Subscribers will have a chance makeovers, laptops, mobile phones, and clothes, among others.

In December 2007 the company also unveiled the Extend your Festive Spirit promotion which has seen UT stake six new Toyota Hilux Pickups cars for subscribers and which is believed to have played a significant role in UT's 26% growth in subscribers.
