Talking design and harvest time

Just in case you'd forgotten, last year's DI(Y) glittering pork.
We're nearing the end of February and that means one of two things: Design Indaba and harvest time in the winelands. Herman Manson has assured us there'll be no glittering piglets at the indaba this year, and that we'll be treated instead to a diverse range of interesting characters, including Coca-Cola's David Butler and our very own spaceman, Mark Shuttleworth. Li Edelkoort will also be hosting trend seminars (yes, Joburg, you get one too) on landscaping interiors and every woman's favourite activity, shopping. Every twit planning to attend will be happy to know that the ban on tweeting has duly been rescinded.

Out in the vineyards, the grapes are ripening nicely and harvest celebrations are afoot, with Robertson's Hands-on Harvest taking place this weekend and Wellington's annual festival kicking off next month. If you fancy yourself as a (very) short story writer, Leopard's Leap has just launched a new competition calling for 60 Words, which could end up on the brand's wine label. And lastly, a big welcome to Calfornia's Gallo Wines which joins the country's cellar this month. So while the SAB and the Cape government duke it out over the stricter licensing laws, do be safe and drink responsibly.
