Transport department to receive toll report

A report by the Gauteng tolling petitions committee will be sent to the Department of Transport after a vote by the Gauteng legislature earlier this week.

Committee chairman Jacob Khawe said the house agreed there was a need for public participation but also for infrastructure development.

Gauteng roads and transport MEC Ismail Vadi reiterated the view of Transport Minister Sbu Ndebele on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Plan - to let the first phase run and halt future phases pending consultation.

The state did not have enough funds to finance the infrastructure improvement and needed to look at public-private partnerships.
