Let us count the ways

We bring you a music packed Lifestyle newsletter this week. Both Jana van Heerden and Dylan Klichowicz enjoy the new one-day format RAMfest in Cape Town. Sindy Peters reports on KONGO's new music video Escape, which sees Cape Town as the preferred destination come doomsday, and Terry Levin finds a common musical thread amongst various speakers at Design Indaba 2012 in "There ain't no grave".

We get your taste buds salivating in anticipation with the announcement of the chefs and restaurants taking part in this year's Taste of Cape Town, and your heart racing with motoring editor Henrie Geyser's review of BMW's new 3 Series which launched in South Africa this week.

Travel editor Brain Berkman feels the love and launches a new series of articles all with the common theme of "10 Things I Love About..."; the first article waxes amorous on the unearthing of new destinations.

We also bring you a gallery of some of the beautiful designs seen at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Show this year. And, speaking of things fashionable, we have tickets to give away to the Traffic Clothing Winter Collection Fashion Show at The Loop Nightclub this Friday, as well as tickets to this Sunday's Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concert featuring the legendary Hugh Masekela. #WINNING!

Happy Tuesday and happy Human Rights Day for tomorrow!

Ruth Cooper, production manager

[10 Things I Love About]... Unearthing new destinations
[Brian Berkman: contributing editor, travel] Mention the name Lew Rood to anyone in the know in tourism and hospitality and they will coo adoringly. I have not yet met another who has such a warmly affectionate following. As he reinvents himself as a specialist hospitality consultant, after retiring from Singita where his marketing and sales skills catapulted the brand to market leader in bespoke safari, I thought it fitting that he should kick off a new BizTravel feature: 10 Things I Love About... Fast paced thrills in Contraband
[Daniel Dercksen] There's nothing more satisfying that watching a well-made and thoroughly engrossing crime thriller. With all the CSIs, NCISs, Law and Orders and a plethora of other crime series on the home-entertainment front - and a spate of blood-soaked action-thrillers on the big screen, it is stimulating to reboot and discover a fresh and clear-cut film. A bite-sized RAMfest
[Jana van Heerden] The biggest news on the festival calendar is usually the announcement of the international acts for RAMfest. This year the change of set-up was the hot topic. The news that the three-day festival had been slashed down to a single day was greeted with abject horror in Cape Town, where it had always been a three-day event, although Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth were thrilled to be invited to the party alongside Durban and Joburg. Then the announcement of the United Nations of international line-ups brought the focus right back to the music. Read more >>

Blind Tiger Sessions with Arno Carstens
[Farah Barry] "To be able to play - and to play these weird instruments - that's what music is all about." Pithy or not, Arno Carstens knows his music. And, as it happens, he also knows his art. His series of Blind Tiger Sessions - a small part of the larger exhibition Arno Plus - has him jamming with others in the upper room of the Lovell Gallery in Woodstock. Read more >>

Memorable ballads in Coward & Cole
[Michael Britton] It was with a measure of trepidation that I went to Coward & Cole, the new show at the Kalk Bay Theatre. Not a Noël Coward fan, I was concerned that the show might consist of Godfrey Johnson and Roland Perold, taking it in turns to play, maybe each one playing the songs of one composer. I have heard Godfrey Johnson perform Coward's music and, on the strength of that show, thought that Coward was overrated. Read more >>
